A start to the new year...

I honestly can't believe that it is the year 2015 all ready!?!?
Where in the world does the time go?

Since this blog is new and no one really knows me or my stitching background, I thought I would take a moment and share a bit more about me. (Well, more than what I've all ready shared.)

I've been cross stitching for the last 20 years, since the day my mother taught me.
I believe I was around 10 years old, when she finally sat me down and showed me how to read a pattern, set up a project and start stitching.
My mother was a fantastic cross stitcher!  She stitched some wonderful designs and she was a great teacher.  I don't think I was the best student, though.  I was young and wanted to spend my time doing other things, so I didn't really concentrate much on cross stitching.

Unfortunately, my mother passed away 15 years ago and I never got to learn the rest of her stitching wisdom. (I do believe she still sits on my shoulder and watches over my stitching progress.  I think she is the quiet voice whispering in my ear, when I make a silly mistake.)

My love of cross stitching became renewed about 8 years ago, when my husband was stationed in Iraq.  He was there for a year and stitching kept me sane.  It gave me something to focus on and allowed me to escape for a few hours.

I have continued to cross stitch, although not as much as I'd like, but I do still find it to be a relaxing hobby.  It is honestly my way to decompress, after a long day.

I've completed some large projects, as gifts, unfortunately, I don't have any pictures to share...
But now, I like to spend my time on smaller, simpler projects.
Although, from time to time, I'll find a larger project, that I just have to try!

With the start of this blog, I started to dig through my stash of cross stitch stuff and did find a few completed projects! (You just never know what you will find, when you start digging!)

2014 Finishes:

I couldn't resist this pattern when I found it on Etsy and I had a really good time stitching it.  It was pretty simple and full of bright colors, two things I absolutely love!

If you are interested in stitching this yourself, you can find the pattern at danceneedle. (There are a lot of very cute patterns there; you've been warned!)

Who doesn't love the Peanuts gang?
Well, I certainly love them and I had a great time bringing them to life in cross stitch.

This piece was supposed to be a Christmas gift, but I just didn't have time to frame it.
So, I guess I have jump on next year!
(If you are interested in this piece, you can find the pattern at cloudsfactory on Etsy.  Again, adorable patterns!)

So, I realize that isn't much, but it is a start and I hope to complete a lot more in the new year!

Stitching Goals:

My first goal, is to reduce the size of my unfinished projects! (And believe me, that isn't even half of them!)

Second, I would like to start stitching with evenweave fabric.
(Can't believe I have tried it yet, but it is something I am looking forward to in the new year.)

Third, I would like to take a stab at hand embroidery.  Nothing big, just some cute, small projects.

Lastly, I would like to actually finish some pieces!  I really hope to have some new ornaments to hang on our Christmas tree next year and lots of new "works of art" around our house!

Well, I do believe that is enough for one day!
I hope everyone had a great start to the new year and I look forward to blogging (and stitching) this coming year!
